Riverside County Registrar Kari Verjil retires

The Registrar of Voters in Riverside County has announced her retirement.

Kari Verjil is stepping down from the position and Assistant Registrar Rebecca A. Spencer has been appointed to the interim post.

The decision was made by Riverside County Executive Officer Jay Orr.

Officials said Spencer has worked in the Riverside County Registrar’s Office for over 14 years. She began in 1999 as a student intern and was chief deputy registrar from 2005 to 2010. Her duties were focused on candidate services, voter services and absentee voting.

She has been the assistant registrar since April, 2011.

Spencer has already served as interim registrar once before; from November, 2010, to February, 2011.

As assistant registrar, she has been responsible for hiring staff and overseeing five divisions with 32 full-time employees and 300 temporary employees in the run-up to major elections, according to administrative officials.

She’s also a member of the California Association of Clerks and Election Officials and the Certified Election and Registration Association.

Spencer will coordinate election activities in the registrar’s office as the statewide primary election in June approaches.
