Woman tries to smuggle over 3 lbs. of meth

A woman was caught with methamphetamine as she was on her way to Los Angeles, according to Border Patrol agents.

The woman was taken into custody on Monday around 11:45 a.m. at the Highway 86 checkpoint, located between Westmorland and Salton City.

Agents at the Indio Station said the woman was being driven by a ‘raitero’, which they described as an unlicensed taxi.

A canine alerted agents to the SUV she was traveling in and she admitted to having drugs on her. Agents said they found eight packages of methamphetamine bandaged to her stomach and back.

The meth weighed 3.08 lbs. and is worth an estimated $20.020.

The suspect is a legally admitted Mexican citizen, according to Border Patrol agents. They took her into custody and the meth was handed over to the D.E.A. for further investigation.
