Man arrested after DUI crash in Thermal

A Thermal man was arrested early Monday morning after he crashed an SUV while attempting to evade Riverside County sheriff’s deputies.

Around 12:20 a.m., deputies tried to pull over a Chevy Suburban on Grapefruit Avenue due to vehicle code violations. The driver, 42-year-old Juan Zavala, didn’t stop and continued driving above 90 MPH, according to deputies.

When Zavala tried to turn east on Avenue 58, he lost control and crashed into a metal pole.

He was taken to the hospital after the crash. He’s been booked into the Riverside County Jail in Indio on charges of DUI and evading.
