Free medical clinic underway at Riverside County Fairgrounds

The organizer of the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals will host a free medical and dental clinic in Indio starting today and running through Sunday.

Goldenvoice is working with California CareForce, the Coachella Valley Community Trust and California Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons to put on the clinic at the Riverside County Fairgrounds.

Up to 900 people a day can get free medical, dental and vision care from volunteer medical and dental workers, according to organizers.

All services are free of charge and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Numbers will be distributed to patients at 3:30 a.m. Thursday and treatments were set to begin at 6:00 a.m.

Doctors will give consultations and diagnoses and perform minor medical rocedures, dental staff will do cleanings, fillings and extractions and a vision lab will produce free prescription eyeglasses on site.

California CareForce, a nonprofit that aims to provide free health, dental and vision care in the state, will provide equipment and supplies.

The event will feature 70 dental stations, 20 medical exam rooms and 10 vision lanes.

All services will be provided by California licensed volunteer health-care practitioners in partnership with Coachella Valley Volunteers in Medicine and Borrego Medical Center.

A similar clinic last year provided more than 2,700 people with an estimated $1 million in care, according to organizers.
