DWA asks customers to reduce water use by 20%

The Board of Directors with the Desert Water Agency is asking all customers to voluntarily reduce water use by 20% to help manage the region’s groundwater basin in the midst of a historic drought.

Agency officials said sustainable groundwater management requires a balanced approach to replenishment and withdrawals, and during the ongoing drought, they’re minimizing the need to withdraw water by asking customers to cut back.

“We have been responsibly managing our region’s groundwater basin for more than 50 years,” said DWA Board President Craig Ewing. “With our growing population and the ongoing challenges surrounding this drought, the path to responsible groundwater management must include reducing customers demand as well as regulating water supply.”

Conduct your own regular inspections of outdoor irrigation
If you notice a problem with your neighbor’s sprinklers, report the issue on DWA’s Website or via the new Water Waster App

Officials said DWA follows up on all reports in its service area to provide information and resources to remedy the issues and ensure water-saving practices can be met.

“Desert Water Agency customers have long been committed to saving water, but during these increasingly dry times it is more important than ever that we all do our part,” Ewing said.

The DWA serves a 325 square-mile area, including parts of Cathedral City, outlying county areas, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs.
