A 29 year-old man was arrested in Lake Elsinore for assault with a deadly weapon on Sunday evening.

According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Jonathan Schmidt is accused of stabbing someone who was attempting to break up a fight in the 31000 block of Riverside Drive.

Deputies were called to the scene just after 11 p.m. where they found the victim outside. Witnesses said the suspect fled in a green Ford Explorer.

Authorities saw a matching SUV near the intersection of Grand Avenue and Bryant Street driven by Schmidt. They said he was in possession of a knife.

After investigating, officers determined Schmidt had attacked the victim and several others at the establishment. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and battery.

The sheriff’s department said Schmidt was taken to the Southwest Detention Center. Deputies ask that anyone who has information about the incident call Officer Melendez at the Lake Elsinore Police Department at 951-245-3300.
