Coachella a wrap as attention turns to Stagecoach Festival

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival 2014 is history, and preparations are underway for next weekend’s three-day Stagecoach Festival, also being staged at Indio’s Empire Polo Club.

The artists who performed Sunday on the third and last day of the Coachella Music Festival’s second weekend included Arcade Fire, the Lucient Dossier Experience, Netsky and Duck Sauce.

After the final sets ended, around 100,000 fans started making their way home around midnight Sunday, filling streets and freeways, an Indio police spokesman said.

Arrest figures were not available for Sunday, but Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said 66 people were arrested through Saturday night, with 28 Friday and 38 Saturday, most for alcohol-related offenses such as public drunkenness and underage drinking.

“Our (arrest) numbers are pretty good,” Guitron said. “It’s the size of a city.”

Police said 80 people were arrested during the festival’s first weekend, which was marked by tragedy when 24-year-old patron Kimchi Truong of Oakland collapsed at the Empire Polo Club on Saturday, April 12.

Truong died Thursday at Desert Regional Medical Center.

The Riverside County Coroner’s Office said it could take up to six weeks for an autopsy and toxicological tests to be completed to determine what killed her.

Just as soon as Coachella Valley Music Festival fans cleared the Empire Polo Club Sunday, workers began transforming the grounds into a country-western venue for next weekend’s three-day Stagecoach Festival.

Artists will include Crystal Gayle, Don McLean, Duane Eddy, Holly Williams, Jason Aldean, Jennifer Nettles, Luke Bryan, Asleep at the Wheel, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Katey Segal and the Forest Rangers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, according to the Stagecoach 2014 website.
