Fire contained to just under 1 acre

Cal Fire sent a full fire response to a small wind driven fire that could have been much worse.

The fire was reported just after 5:00 pm in a field in Whitewater. Crews were called to the area of Emerald Drive and Hatton Place near the Haugen/Lehman exit of I-10.

According to a fire captain on scene, firefighters were able to contain the blaze to just under one acre. They were aggressively attacking the fire because windy conditions were making it difficult to fight.

The fire was in an area where people illegally dump trash.

A spokesperson from the Whitewater Neighborhood Watch Group says that nearly 300 homes are in the area.

Fire officials said no homes were threatened.
