Brothers accused of killing cousin in Indio
An 18 year old and 16 year old have been charged with murder in the shooting death of their 36 year old cousin in Indio on April 11.
Authorities said 18-year-old Raymond Hernandez and his 16 year old brother Joseph Hernandez were arrested on Thursday, April 17, around 2 p.m. at the Indio Police Department.
The charges stem from an apparent dispute between the suspects and their older cousin that led to the deadly shooting at the Mountain View Garden Apartments in the 83300 block of Avenue 44, according to spokesman Ben Guitron with the Indio Police Department.
Police found 36-year-old Manuel Chavarria Hernandez lying in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to his head around 1 a.m. Neighbors didn’t report hearing any gunshots that morning.
After investigating, detectives found the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting and arrested the sibling suspects, according to Guitron.
Raymond Hernandez was booked into the Riverside County Sheriff’s Jail in Indio and Joseph Hernandez was taken to Riverside County Juvenile Hall.
Both suspects are being charged with murder, conspiracy, weapons violations and attempted murder. Police said Joseph will be charged as an adult.
Raymond is expected to be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, according to the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office.
