Man suspected of stabbing, sexually assaulting woman
A Beaumont man was arrested on Tuesday night in connection to a stabbing incident.
Deputies with the Cabazon Station were called to the 10500 block of El Monte Drive just before 5 p.m. They found a woman who was stabbed and sexually assaulted.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department said the woman was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
An investigation led them to the suspect, 39-year-old Lamonte Jefferson, in Beaumont around 6:30 p.m.
Jefferson was taken to the hospital for an apparent injury he received while assaulting the victim, deputies said in a statement. He was then booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
Jefferson is facing charges of attempted murder and assault to commit rape.
The sheriff’s department said his bail was initially set at $2M but he’s being held without bail for violating his parole.
The incident was isolated, but deputies said if anyone has information regarding the case they should call Investigator Jackie Lane at the Cabazon Sheriff’s Office at (951) 922-7100.
