Woman busted with 24 lbs. of meth by Border Patrol

A 41 year old woman was busted with 24 lbs. of methamphetamine by Border Patrol agents on Wednesday.

The woman was hiding the narcotics inside the gas tank of a minivan, agents said in a release on Friday.

The arrest happened around 1:30 p.m. at the Highway 86 checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City. A K9 alerted agents to the van and they found 22 plastic-sealed packages of meth hidden inside the gas tank.

Authorities said the drugs weighed 24.91 lbs. and are estimated at $285,465.

The woman had a permanent resident card, agents said. She was taken into custody and her vehicle and the methamphetamine was turned over to the D.E.A.
