Ferris wheel malfunctions at Palm Desert hotel
More than twenty people are safe after being trapped on a Ferris wheel at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort in Palm Desert.
The Ferris wheel malfunctioned Friday just after 9:30 p.m.
Authorities say a snapped drive cable caused the 30-foot Ferris wheel to stop — trapping 22 riders at a private event at the resort.
Firefighters were called out — they used a ladder truck to take the riders off the Ferris wheel.
No injuries were reported.
Authorities say they had everyone off the ride by about 1:45 a.m. Saturday.
