Police look for potential burglary victims

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is looking for the rightful owners to thousands of stolen items.

The Burglary Suppression Unit says items were stolen in a months-long burglary spree spanning across the Coachella Valley, Yucaipa, and Redlands.

On May 1, Cathedral City Police arrested 41-year-old Arthur Byrd of Cathedral City and 21-year-old Kaylah Long of Desert Hot Springs for the theft.

In their car, the suspects had stolen electronics as well as copious amounts of stolen cash and methamphetamine.

During a search of the suspects’ storage unit, they found the large stash of stolen goods. Items include electronics, power tools, jewelry, purses, bags, even a wedding dress.

“Some of it could be sentimental, some of it could be passed on from generation to generation, so the Burglary Suppression Unit would like to return those items to those victims,” says Dep. Armando Mu oz with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

The BSU has returned items to 17 people, but they are looking to return everything as soon as possible.

Potential victims can survey the items on Tuesday, May 13, and Thursday, May 15 from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Potential victims should bring photos of their stolen items, a police report, and serial numbers for electronic items.

The Riverside County Sheriff Department is located at 73705 Gerald Ford Dr, Palm Desert, 92211. For further information, call Deputy Patrick at (760) 836-1688 and Investigator Barros (760) 836-1775.
