Cathedral City Police Department to celebrate 30th anniversary

The Cathedral City Police Department is dedicating its Peace Officer Memorial at its 30th anniversary gathering on May 17, and the whole community is invited to the family-friendly event.

The department will honor its fallen heroes, Officer Vasquez and Officer Gibson, who both gave their lives protecting the community. Officials said the department has commissioned the creation of memorial brass plaques honoring Officer Vasquez and Officer Gibson’s service to the Police Department and the Community.

The plaques will be mounted on the wall south of the police department lobby entrance door. Officers will be dedicating the memorial plaques to coincide with the end of National Police Week, and the Washington D.C. Police Officer Memorial activities, according to officials.

Police officers will be giving tours of the station, which will feature the K-9 team, SWAT members, and police and fire department vehicles.

The event is a celebration commemorating the department’s 30 year anniversary. There will be free hot dogs, popcorn, a dunk tank, face painting and balloons.

It takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Police Department and Town Square, located at 68700 Avenida Lalo Guerrero in Cathedral City.
