Cathedral City man arrested for ramming police car

One man is behind bars after ramming a police car when an officer tried to pull him over.

Cathedral City police officers were called out to the Circle K on Ramon road around 5 p.m. Saturday night because two people were arguing and appeared to be getting ready to fight.

An officer saw a man matching the description enter the driver’s seat of a vehicle parked in front of the business.

The officer pulled up behind the vehicle with lights flashing to stop the man, that’s when police tell us the driver deliberately put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated rapidly, striking the front of the patrol car.

23- year-old Fernando Sandoval of Cathedral City was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer. He was transported to the Riverside County Jail in Banning.
