Memorial Day Observance to be held in Cathedral City

A ceremony to honor our veterans and armed forces will be held in Cathedral City on Memorial Day. The Memorial Day Observance is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Desert Memorial Park, located at 31705 Da Vall Drive.

Trustees with the Palm Springs Cemetery District said there will be a Presentation of Colors by the Palm Springs High School Air Force JROTC, a Memorial Day address, recognition of attending veterans, additions to the Avenue of Flags, as well as many other acknowledgements, dedications and salutes.

According to Kathleen Jurasky, District Manager of the Palm Springs Cemetery District, the Avenue of Flags will be presented to honor deceased veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.

If you would like to have a U.S flag presented in honor of a deceased veteran, it’s too late to get involved for this Memorial Day Observance, but you can still start the process for Veteran’s Day or for Memorial Day in 2015.

Steven B. Quintanilla, Master of Ceremonies, said if you would like to have a U.S. flag presented in honor of a deceased veteran, you should do the following:

Ask your local mortuary for a free flag
Complete the form
Submit the completed form to Kathleen Jurasky, District Manager of the Palm Springs Cemetery District
Deliver the flag to Ms. Jurasky ASAP
Show up at the event

You also have to submit the veteran’s discharge documents in order to get a flag, or you can stop by the mortuary that handled the burial arrangements, Jurasky said.

We hope the community can make it to the event as we honor our dedicated veterans and the men and women who are currently defending our freedom by serving proudly in our armed forces.
