Valley country club hosts marines for golf and fun

Veterans and residents at Oasis Country Club gathered Monday for the 4th annual Memorial Day golf tournament for marines.

About a dozen marines from the 29 Palms Marine Base were hosted by the Country Club for a day of golf, food and fun. The foursomes included 2 marines and 2 members from the club.

Event organizers say it’s a great way to pay it forward to the next generation of service members. “When I was in the corp a long time ago we didn’t have this kind of stuff and this is a wonderful way to give back,” says event organizer Terry Monaghan. “The corp did a lot for me and I hope it does a lot for these young fellows.” The club hosts the tournament as a way to pay tribute to the marines for their service.

KESQ Anchor John White was Master of Ceremonies for the event and also enjoyed 10 holes with the marines. Actor and sports star Fred “The Hammer” Williamson played as well and spoke at the luncheon about the wounded warriors project, something he supports with his own golf tournament each year here in the valley.
