Famed balloon festival begins

Balloon rides, wine tastings and outdoor concerts will be among the entertainment choices at the Temecula Valley Balloon and Wine Festival, which runs Friday through Sunday.

The event, now in its 30th year, will get underway at 3 p.m. in the Lake
Skinner Recreation Area, just east of Temecula.

Country music artists Frankie Ballard, Tim Charron and Justin Moore will
perform on the main stage Friday night. The Gin Blossoms are the Saturday night headliners, while the heavy metal band Warrant will take the stage Sunday.

A freestyle motocross demo is planned, along with dancing and an array
of wines to enjoy, organizers said. Area vintners will be selling their
products, and a food court will be open day and night, serving barbecue and other delights.

Hot air balloon rides will be offered from sunrise to sunset, with the
traditional “balloon glow” after 8 p.m., during which the airships ignite
their burners in unison while aloft.

Admission runs between $5 and $50, depending on the age of the festival-
goer and the time of day.
