California Highway Patrol officers make $1 million dollar pot bust on State Route 86

California Highway Patrol officers making a routine traffic stop in Imperial County turned up 2,000 pounds of marijuana stashed inside a Chevrolet passenger van.

CHP spokesman German Lazarin says the pot, worth about $1 million, is the largest Imperial County bust for the agency in five years.

A canine unit that responded to the call alerted officers to the drugs.

The Los Angeles Times reports officers made the discovery after they stopped the van on northbound State Route 86 on Monday.

Lazarin says the officers had observed the driver, 30-year-old Julio C. Meza of Las Vegas, allegedly weaving across traffic lanes.
