Jaguar cubs show clean bill of health at Living Desert
The two jaguar cubs at The Living Desert recently underwent their first medical examination by the zoo’s veterinarian. On Wednesday, officials were excited to announce that both boys are healthy and doing well.
Zookeepers said each cub weighs 12 lbs.
“We are so proud of these little cubs and happy to report good news,” said President and CEO Allen Monroe. “They are completely healthy and developing at the expected rate.”
The zoo’s veterinarian listened to their heart and lungs, weighed the cubs, and examined their teeth, eyes and ears. The cubs also received their first set of vaccinations.
The cubs haven’t been named yet. They were born on April 26 to mother Magia and father Memo, who were brought together as part of the Species Survival Plan.
Officials said they are the first jaguar cubs birthed at The Living Desert. The cubs are expected to be on exhibit for the public to see sometime in September.
The Living Desert is open daily from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
