Lotto ticket and cigarette theft reveals stolen car

Two men have been arrested for burglarizing a gas station in Palm Springs on Sunday morning.

According to a release from the Palm Springs Police Department, the burglary happened around 4:20 a.m. at a Shell gas station located at 4875 East Ramon Road.

Officers were made aware of the burglary at 6 a.m. They said the suspects broke a window to get inside the gas station and stole lottery tickets and cigarettes.

Surveillance video showed the suspect’s vehicle leaving the scene.

Just before 11 a.m. Monday, officers spotted a car matching the description parked at Home Depot at 5200 East Ramon Road. The 2004 BMW 325 was reported stolen from Palm Desert, according to police.

Police said 23-year-old Javier Francisco Martinez of Palm Springs drove away when officers arrived. A pursuit began that led police to San Joaquin Drive and Mission Drive in Cathedral City, where Martinez decided to stop the car.

Martinez was arrested and taken into custody.

Police conducted a probation search at Martinez’ home where they found stolen items from the gas station.

They said 22-year-old Cathedral City resident Eric Enriquez was also at the home and he had stolen property from the burglary and a controlled substance on him.

Felony burglary
Felony motor vehicle theft
Felony possession of stolen property
Recklessly evading a peace officer, also a felony
Felony violation of probation

Eric Enriquez is charged with:

Felony possession of a controlled substance
Felony possession of stolen property
Felony violation of probation

Martinez and Enriquez were both booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
