Man identified in deadly motorcycle crash

A man was killed after crashing his motorcycle in Cathedral City Sunday night.

According to a release from the Cathedral City Police Department, the crash happened on Varner Road, east of Mountain View Road, just before 7 p.m.

The Riverside County Coroner identified the victim as 38-year-old Thomas Trollope Jr. of Desert Hot Springs.

Officers said Trollope was on a straight part of Varner Road about to arrive at a curve, but when he did, he continued straight instead of turning. He ended up hitting a sign that was advising drivers of an upcoming curve and was thrown from his motorcycle after colliding with a wooden pole.

When officers arrived, emergency responders with the Cathedral City Fire Department were trying to stabilize Trollope. They said he had severe trauma to his right leg.

He was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in critical condition but died from his injuries early Monday morning.

Officers said alcohol doesn’t appear to have been a factor in the crash. The investigation continues. If you have any information about the crash, call the Cathedral City Police Department at (760) 770-0303.

Varner Road was closed for about an hour while emergency crews responded to the accident.
