Indio man arrested on bank robbery charges
A suspected Indio Bank robber is behind bars, in fact, he’s actually been in jail since June 17, according to Indio Police Spokesman Sgt. Dan Marshall.
You may remember a rash of bank robberies in Indio over the past few months; six in total since the beginning of the year.
One suspect, 34-year-old Martin Chapa of Indio, is suspected of robbing the BBVA Compass bank on Highway 111 on June 3rd, and is suspected as a person of interest in another bank robbery, Marshall said.
Chapa was arrested on other charges and was in jail when investigators recognized him from surveillance video released by the bank.
Chapa is being held without bail at the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of second degree robbery, obstructing and resisting arrest and damaging jail property, according to jail records.
He’s due back in court on July 17.
Indio police are also searching for another suspect they believe robbed several additional banks this year.
Officers ask anyone with information to call the Indio Police Department at (760) 391-4057.
