A motorcyclist was killed when he and a vehicle collided in Indian Wells, shutting down traffic for six hours, a sergeant said Saturday.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at 10:23 p.m. Friday and sent firefighters to the corner of Highway 111 and Province Way. The circumstances on how the crash happened was not disclosed but the motorcycle rider was found on the ground and wasn’t moving, Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Radek Horkel said.

The motorcyclist, identified as 21 year old Ricardo Sierra Gutierrez Jr. was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

Highway 111 was shut down in both directions between Cook Street and Rancho Palmeras Drive for six hours as authorities investigated the scene, Horkel said.
