Idyllwild firefighters remember Mountain Fire, celebrate community return

The community is invited to a celebration at the Idyllwild Fire Station on Sunday, July 20. The celebration is to honor the community’s return from the Mountain Fire which forced evacuations in July of 2013.

The gathering will also highlight the first completed stage of the station’s remodel.

The event takes place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Officials said you can talk with firefighters, operate a fire hose, run an obstacle course and ride in a fire truck.

The station is located at 54160 Maranatha Dr. Idyllwild-Pine Cove.

The Mountain Fire ignited on July 15, 2013. The wildfire ripped through the San Jacinto mountains destroying everything in its path. Even though the fire didn’t touch the town of Idyllwild, the community continues to recover.
