Missing 85-year-old killed in hit-and-run

Authorities say an 85-year-old man with schizophrenia and diabetes who was missing from an assisted living facility has been killed in a late-night hit-and-run crash in Southern California.

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement Saturday that they are looking for the driver who struck and killed John Preciado of Mentone.

Preciado had been missing from the facility near Redlands for nearly 24 hours when he was hit crossing the street in San Bernardino on Friday night.

He was pronounced dead at Loma Linda University Medical Center early Saturday.

San Bernardino police are investigating the death. They have given no details on vehicles or suspects.
