Palm Springs Swim Center closes for renovations

The Palm Springs Swim Center will close for a month for sales tax-funded pool deck renovations, it was announced today.

The center will close Aug. 3 and reopen Sept. 1. Organized swim teams don’t meet in August, and overall pool usage declines, city parks and recreation director Vicki Oltean said.

“We appreciate the community’s patience while we work to replace the pool deck,” she said. “We anticipate swimmers will be very pleased with the final result once the pool reopens in September.”

The project is being funded through Measure J, which was passed by voters in November 2011 to fund public improvements downtown by raising the city’s sales tax from 7.75 percent to 8.75 percent.
