Industrial fire reported in Mecca on Sunday
A vat of cooking oil caught fire Sunday at a soil recycling plant in Mecca.
Firefighters were dispatched at 11:28 a.m. to Western Environmental in
the 62100 block of Gene Welmas Drive.
No injuries were reported during the blaze around the 50 foot-by 50 foot
pool of oil that required the help of a hazardous materials team, Riverside
County Fire Department spokeswoman Jody Hagemann said.
The flames were stopped with foam and firefighters were expected to remain at the scene for several hours, Hagemann said.
A cause behind the fire was not immediately determined.
