Missing girls rescued from Mt. San Jacinto State Park
Two girls were rescued over the weekend after they became lost while hiking near the Palm Springs Aerial Tramways.
According to a release from Todd Friedman with the California Department of Parks and Recreation, the two juveniles from Pico Rivera were reported missing by one of their mothers at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
The mother told park rangers that she let her daughter and daughter’s friend walk down the path that leads from the tramway mountain station into the Long Valley wilderness area, but she didn’t know if the girls were planning on hiking or if they were setting up a time to return to the mountain station.
Rescuers found the missing girls at about 8 p.m. on the Desert View Trail in Long Valley, Friedman said in the release. They were in good condition and back with family shortly afterward.
California State Parks reminds hikers to have proper equipment, a well thought out plan and to stay on the trail.
