5 students injured in California bus crash

The California Highway Patrol says five high school students suffered minor injuries when a drunken driver crashed head-on into their school bus east of Sacramento.

The crash occurred around 6:50 a.m. Thursday near the community of Grizzly Flats in El Dorado County. Grizzly Flats is about 60 miles east of Sacramento in the Sierra foothills.

CHP Officer Quinn Cuthbertson says the SUV driver hit the bus on a two-lane road. He also suffered minor injuries, but was arrested at the scene on suspicion of drunken driving.

Cuthbertson says some of the injured students were taken to a hospital.

The bus belonged to the El Dorado Union High School District and was en route to Union Mine High School.
