Suspected bike thief caught on camera captured by police
Palm Springs Police say they have arrested a suspect they believe stole a bicycle from a bike rack at the Palm Springs Library last week.
We highlighted the theft last week on KESQ and CBS Local 2 when we obtained a photograph of the suspect from a security guard at the library.
Palm Springs Police say that On Thursday, August 7th, at approximately 6:02 PM, they received a report of a past bicycle theft from a bicycle rack outside of the Palm Springs Library located at 300 S. Sunrise Way.
A security guard reported seeing a male suspect using bolt cutters to cut a bicycle lock from a bicycle and bicycle rack. The security guard contacted and photographed the suspect as he rode away on the bicycle. The owner of the bicycle later returned to the bicycle rack and reported the theft.
A Palm Springs Police Detective reviewed the photograph of the suspect and recognized the suspect from prior police contacts.
On Wednesday, August 13th, at approximately 12:50 PM, Detectives located the suspect riding a bicycle in the 700 block of S. Palm Canyon Drive.
The suspect, Garrett Jennings, was arrested without incident for several violations. At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a pair of bolt cutters and a different bicycle that was possibly stolen.
The original stolen bicycle was not located. Jennings was later transported to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.
