Overnight check point leads to one arrest

A motorist was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and two vehicles were towed during an overnight driver’s license/sobriety checkpoint in Coachella, a police sergeant said Saturday.

Also, 16 drivers were cited for driving without a valid driver’s license during the checkpoint at Grapefruit Boulevard and Ed Mitchell Drive that began at 7 p.m. Friday and ended today at 2:30 a.m, said Coachella police Sgt. Roberto Castro.

Castro said a motorist was also cited for driving on a suspended license.
