Indio home destroyed by late afternoon fire

Cal Fire was able to put out a house fire in Indio Wednesday afternoon before it spread to nearby homes.

According to Indio Police the call came in around 3:15 p.m. that a home on Aztec Street near Avenue 44 was on fire. They responded along with Cal Fire to investigate.

Cal Fire says when they arrived the home was fully engulfed in flames. They were able to put the fire out just after 3:30 p.m.

Indio Police spokesman Dan Marshall says that officers confirmed the house was empty at the time of the fire.

Cal Fire says firefighters will be committed to the scene for three to four hours. No injuries reported. The cause is still under investigation.
