A motorcycle rider and his passenger killed in a crash in Desert Hot Springs Saturday were identified Monday.
Lorne Powers, 62, of Joshua Tree was speeding east on state Route 62,
east of North Indian Canyon Drive, on his Harley-Davidson about 7:25 p.m.
Saturday when he lost control and veered into the path of an oncoming Jeep, clipping the vehicle.
Powers and his passenger, 48-year-old Amanda Fridley of Bullhead City,
Arizona, were flung onto the road, according to the California Highway Patrol and Riverside county Coroner’s Office.
Fridley died at the scene, and Powers was declared dead at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs about an hour after the crash, according to the coroner’s office.
The Jeep’s driver, 20-year-old Joseph Prine of Petaluma, escaped injury. It hasn’t been determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the fatal crash.
