Five-year-old with terminal cancer gets dream trip to the beach
With ocean in sight, nothing could stop Liam Myrick.
“No quit, he does not quit, he keeps going and going until you make him stop,” Liam’s dad, Gregory, said.
Liam, his parents and two sisters traveled from Houston, Missouri to San Diego…
“I’ve always had a love of the beach and it transferred to him,” Gregory said.
For many, a trip to the beach is no big deal. For liam – it makes his life complete.
Liam is battling stage four high risk neuroblastoma, and his parents say he is on borrowed time.
“I’m trying to get him to his 6th birthday. With everything going on with his body, I want him to see what he calls his lucky number 6,” his mom Shawna said.
He’ll turn six at the end of September. Right now – a five year old with a smile that won’t stop.
“I don’t know how he does it everyday my face would hurt,” Gregory said.
It all started when a Palm Springs man who connected with Liam via social media started fund-raising for the trip.
“He’s been following Liam for three years. A month ago we were talking about how Liam has fluid around his heart. He asked ‘What does he want to do?’ and I said ‘Liam wants to see the ocean.'”
News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2 News ran a story a few weeks ago and our viewers came forward donating generously to the Myricks’ Go-Fund Me page.
On the itinerary – Legoland, Sea World, a Padres game, then Palm Springs.
“To make memories out of a hospital. To have the kids together not in a hospital or anything to do with it,” Shawna said.
Memories they’ll have forever – on their go pro, in their hearts.
