Police: Suspect drove off after hitting man in wheelchair

Palm Springs police are searching for the person who drove off after hitting a wheelchair-bound man who was crossing East Ramon Road at Paseo Dorotea early Wednesday morning.

Officers found a 53 year old man lying in the road with a possible head injury when they arrived to the scene. The victim was taken to the hospital and said his hip, shoulder, legs and ribs were in pain, according to a release from the Palm Springs Police Department.

East Ramon Road was closed at Paseo Dorotea for about an hour and a half Wednesday morning while officers investigated the hit and run.

The accident is still under investigation. It’s unknown if police have a description of the vehicle at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Palm Springs Police Department at 760-323-8105.
