Cathedral City man in custody accused of bike theft

A Cathedral City man accused of bike theft is in custody this morning.

Twenty-five-year-old Juan Manuel Sandoval was arrested at 7:20 p.m. on Wednesday in Palm Springs.

Authorities say a police officer spotted Sandoval riding a stolen bike in the 700 block of East Palm Canyon Drive.

The officer attempted to stop Sandoval but he took off running into the parking lot of the Ace Hotel.

Additional officers arrived and later found Sandoval, hiding in a rear patio of a hotel room.

The officers contacted the owner of the bicycle who confirmed it was stolen during a residential burglary.

Sandoval is facing several charges including violation of probation, resisting an officer and an outstanding felony warrant.

He was transported to the Larry Smith Correctional Facility in Banning where he was booked.
