Backpack giveaway gets kids ready for school

Hundreds of kids got new backpacks and school supplies Saturday. Sword of the Lord Ministries” in Thousand Palms hosted a free backpack and school supply giveaway.

Families lined up to enjoy music, a free barbecue and painting.

More than 200 students of all grade levels walked away with backpacks filled with pencils, paper and folders, everything they need to start the new school year off right.

“I’m having fun and I’m learning about Jesus and I got a backpack,” said 4th grader Gemma Garcia.

“If you don’t go to school, you won’t get a good education and you need a backpack to keep all of your supplies,” said 4th grader Melanie Ovalle.

In case you missed the event, the church still has some backpacks left over!

Sword of the Lord Ministries is located at 72055 Corporate Way, Thousand Palms.
