3.1 quake in San Jacinto

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.1 shook San Jacinto today, but there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The moderate quake was widely felt at 3:16 p.m., according to the Southern California Earthquake Center.

It registered as mild shaking from the Murrieta to Beaumont, and from Moreno Valley to Temecula, according to people who registered their reports on the USGS “Did You Feel It” website.

A police dispatcher said were no reports of damage in Hemet. Cal Fire also reported no damage in the area, Riverside County Fire Department spokeswoman Melody Hendrickson said.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department could not immediately be reached. An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.1 hit San Jacinto at 3:16 p.m., according to automated readings from the Southern California Earthquake Center.
