Humidity envelops Valley before fall-like weather moves in

It is hot and sticky in the Coachella Valley but more fall like desert weather is just around the corner and people are ready for this humidity and triple digits to go away.

“it’s ugly, awful, it thought this weather was over! we are waiting for the cool days,” said Coachella resident Veronica Diaz.

Our normally dry desert heat was no where to be found on Friday.

“I’m pregnant so right now i am really really hot and it’s really really humid. I’m sweating a lot and I feel out of breath all of the time,” said Bermuda Dunes resident Laura Rodriguez.

The clouds in the sky blocked the sun but served as reminder of the moisture in the air.

“We are from Texas this is almost as bad as Texas, so I am looking forward to tomorrow,” said La Quinta resident Felix Bulls.

It’s actually worse than Texas, we checked. In Houston it only feels like 84 degrees, here in the desert with the humidity it more like 103.

“We moved here in June, here is sweat on my upper lip, we haven’t experienced this much humidity,” said Bulls.

It’s not just the humidity adding to the misery, there is also the smell.

“This morning when I went to take my boys to school even they noticed, mommy it stinks out here,” said Diaz.

“Od-de-salton Sea,” said Bulls.

Hydrogen sulfide levels near the Salton Sea put the Coachella Valley under an odor until midnight.

“It seems like this ugly weather doesn’t want to go away,” said Diaz.

“We are really ready for the La Quinta weather that we have always come to know and love,” said Bulls.

As far as the famous Salton Sea smell, the South Coast Air Quality Management District says level have already gotten better but we could smell it again if southeastern winds pick up.
