Alleged drunk driver slams into dump truck in Cathedral City

Cathedral City police Sergeant Scott Sharpe says the driver of a Nissan pickup truck slammed into a full-sized diesel dump truck that was stopped at a red light Friday night.

This happened at 8:52 p.m. on Ramon Rd. heading east,approaching Cathedral Canyon.

The driver of the Nissan is not being identified, was not wearing a seat belt and sustained major injuries when he was thrown forward and struck the steering column, according to Sgt. Sharpe.

Police say the dump truck had minor damage, while the pickup had major damage.

Cathedral City police are asking for the public’s help in finding witnesses to the crash. If anybody witnessed this collision they are urged to call the Cathedral City Police Dept. for a statement at (760) 770-0303.
