Families Hit the Links and Enjoy Day of Free Golf at Palm Desert Resort
Golfers of all ages got a chance to hit the links Saturday for free at the annual Family Golf Festival held at the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort and Spa in Palm Desert.
The event encourages families to get out and learn to play the game together. The Jotblad family, visiting from Laguna Niguel, hit the links together as a family for the very first time.
“My 8-year-old daughter, we signed her up for a golf class at school and it starts in two weeks. We thought this would be a great opportunity for her first time lesson in golf,” said Father Gary Jotblad.
The desert also experienced its first significant cool down of the fall season this weekend. Jotblad said golfing was a great way to get out and enjoy the great weather.
Head golf professional at the resort, Drew Hudgens, helped organize the event, and says golf is a sport with no age limit that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
“What we’re trying to do is to get more families involved with golf, and make it a fun event for them to do on the weekends or whatever time they might have to do it,” said Hudgens.
Golf instructors were on hand teaching people everything from how to hold a golf club, to how to perfect their swings.
“So far it looks like she’s doing really well, like I said, it’s the first time that she’s swung a golf club,” said Jotblad of his 8-year-old daughter.
Families also liked that the event was free.
“I think it’s a great idea yeah. When I first saw this, I said ‘We have to go sign up for it tomorrow,'” Jotblad said, “Golf can be an expensive sport to play for lessons, and you know actual playing time. So, this is a great opportunity without any costs to try it out,” he said.
The Jotblad’s say they enjoyed the day and look forward to hitting the links as a family again.
