‘Political Pop Up’ draws hundreds to Palm Springs Air Museum

Hundreds of people attended the inaugural Desert Sun “Political Pop Up” Saturday at the Palm Springs Air Museum. The event allowed them to get to know more about candidates and ballot measures before voting for them on November 4. More than 40 campaigns from across the Coachella Valley met with constituents.

“There’s no question in my mind that meeting the actual person or the people that are helping them campaign is a good way to find out what they’re really about,” said Ricardo, of Palm Desert. “This is the way to do it. It’s a very informal, casual setting, in a beautiful spot,” said Ricardo.

“It’s vital for the future of this community we all live in. These people are going to be making decisions about how we spend our money, what policies we have on education,” said Greg Burton, Executive Director of The Desert Sun.

The Riverside County Registrar of Voters was on hand, helping people get registered for the fall General Election.

“I think it’s a good opportunity for the candidates to get out and see the public and give them their views and opinions and what they’re going to do, and it gives us at the Registrar of Voters office to register people to vote and answer their questions,” said Larry Smith from the Registrar of Voters.

“Often times it’s a big event or it’s TV or it’s radio, and they don’t get that personal experience with people,” said Burton.

There is a TV event you won’t want to miss. The Desert Sun is our partner in an upcoming debate between Congressman Raul Ruiz and Assemblyman Brian Nestande, both vying for the 36th congressional seat.

It’s a race on national radar that’ll air live on KESQ and CBS Local 2 Sunday, October 5th, at 6 p.m. The following day, vote-by-mail ballots will start arriving in mailboxes throughout riverside
