Local school will celebrate designation of California amphibian
State leaders will gather with Sea View Elementary school students this morning celebrating the designation of the new state amphibian.
Last year, students at the school contacted assemblyman Manuel Perez to author a bill declaring the threatened California red-legged frog as the official state amphibian.
Perez was impressed by their work and introduced the measure in March.
Students and teachers traveled to Sacramento and testified in support of the bill, which passed.
The California red-legged frog is the largest native frog in the western United States and is found almost exclusively in California.
