‘Musical T’s’ combine fashion, music, art and technology
Astrella Rothberg is no stranger to music — she’s the daughter of rock and roll superstar, Donovan. Her new collection of t-shirts called “Musical T’s” combines fashion, music, art and technology. Her collection can be seen on the backs of numerous celebrities.
“This is a different twist on rock and roll shirts and I’ve seen a lot of rock and roll shirts right but the thing I like about them is I can wear them,” said Matt Sorum of Guns N’ Roses.
Rothberg said her product is not your typical t-shirt.
“This is art, music and technology we wanted to embrace all of those elements,” explained Rothberg.
She spent two years creating her collection and unveiled it Saturday at the Riviera Hotel in Palm Springs. Rothberg has worked with artists like Elton John and Miles Davis to reinvent their album artwork and put it on an all organic shirt.
“It gives them a chance some of the older albums the get to relive it and sort of re-see it and it’s sort of a whole new burst of life from them,” said Rothberg.
Artist Miguel Parades created his own spin on the album covers featured on the shirts and auctioned them off.
“The artists have just been responding so amazingly to it because they just love seeing it through a whole new set of eyes,” said Rothberg.
Marco Perry, General Manager at the Riviera Hotel, said guests of the hotel enjoyed the one of a kind artwork, too.
“A lot of people who are walking through even during the day when the Starlight Lounge is closed people come through here and browse through the artwork,” said Perry.
So, where does the technology aspect tie into this first ever of its kind shirt’?
“When you buy the t-shirt you take your smart phone and you wave it over the code on the tag and your immediately streaming the music,” explained Rothberg.
It’s a step in a new direction.
“There’s no record stores to go to and touch the records so it’s like I’m getting it on a shirt oh wow what a concept,” concluded Sorum.
The shirts are available for purchase at the Crimson Boutique located in the Riviera Hotel.
