‘Parade of Planes’ takes over streets of Palm Springs
Thousands of pilots and flying enthusiasts have landed in Palm Springs for the 2014 Flying Aviation Expo and the highly anticipated Parade of Planes.
According to Communications Director Amy Blaisdell, nearly 80 planes began taxiing under their own power on city streets from Palm Springs International Airport to the Convention Center at 10 a.m.
The parade is expected to last two hours and then the planes will taxi back to the airport beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 2. The planes will stay on display throughout the weekend.
Certain roads will be closed to accommodate the Parade of Planes.
Road Closures:

Portions closed October 30 through November 2 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Planes will be parked on the streets around the convention center during the Aviation Expo. Portions of Avenida Caballeros, Amado Road and Alvarado Road will be closed throughout the weekend.
Closed Sunday, November 2 beginning at 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. – Same streets will be closed so the planes can return to the airport.
Blaisdell said access to Margarita’s Restaurant and the Palm Springs Unified School District will be available by turning north onto Avenida Caballeros from Tahquitz Canyon Way. Additionally, Calle Alvarado access will be available for Plaza Villa residents from Andreas Road.
The 2014 Flying Aviation Expo goes from October 31 to November 2. It’s taking the place of last year’s Airport Owners and Pilots Association summit which did not make plans to return to Palm Springs this season, said James Canfield, executive director of the Palm Springs Convention Center.
“The city of Palm Springs is thrilled to welcome these aviation enthusiasts to our town,” said Mayor Steve Pougnet. “Palm Springs is home to a superb international airport and of course the Palm Springs Air Museum is a must-see.”
