Surveillance video shows Cathedral City man hit three times by hit-and-run drivers

Surveillance video shows Theodoro Torres, 51, was hit and run over by three different vehicles in a matter of seconds around 9 p.m. last Wednesday.

Amberlea Martinez, his niece, watched the video and was heartbroken no one stopped to help her uncle who later died.

“Someone could’ve stopped. It could’ve been prevented. He could’ve been here with us,” said Martinez.

The California Highway Patrol obtained the video from a camera at a home on Avenida La Paloma in Cathedral City. In the video, the time on the screen is not correct. If you look closely, you can see Torres crossing Ramon Road just before he’s hit by a black Lincoln Navigator SUV with chrome rims.

Then it shows a witness tried to get the attention of drivers passing by. However, about 30 seconds later an ambulance carrying the victim of another hit and run crash runs Torres over as well.

Then just seven seconds later a dark-colored Sedan hit Torres a third time. The driver stopped, backed the car up and just drove away.

“That’s like you knew you hit somebody and something and then to reverse and then drive away, it doesn’t make any sense how people can just hit someone and leave,” said Martinez.

The CHP asks anyone who saw something to say something.

“With the help of the community, we’re going to do the best we can to find those suspects,” CHP spokesman Mike Radford.

“Hopefully justice is served and someone is held accountable for their actions,” said Martinez.

Police hope by showing you this surveillance video, you can help track down the hit and run drivers and help the Torres’ find closure.
