California poll: Voters favor water bond, sentencing charges

A Field Poll finds voters supporting the $7.5 billion water bond on Tuesday’s ballot and a proposition that seeks to ease sentences for certain drug and property crimes.

But the survey released Friday also finds voters turning away from initiatives that would regulate health insurance rates and raise the ceiling for medical malpractice damage awards.

The survey of 941 likely voters found majorities supporting Proposition 1, the water bond, and Proposition 47, which would reduce some crimes from felonies to misdemeanors.

Less than one-third of voters were backing the health care initiatives.

Proposition 45 lets the state insurance commissioner regulate rates, while Proposition 46 requires drug testing of doctors along with raising limits on malpractice awards.

The poll has a sampling error margin of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
