Holiday events kick off in the Coachella Valley Wednesday night

Holiday-themed events are kicking off Wednesday night in the Coachella Valley. Here’s a look at events taking place through the weekend.

Wednesday (12/3)

6PM – The Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City will hold its annual Holiday Gift and Wreath Extravaganza fundraiser at the Mary Pickford Theatre, 36850 Pickfair St., Cathedral City. The event includes live entertainment, live and silent auctions and caroling. Tickets are $30 per person. More information or buy tickets
6PM – P.S. Resorts and the Rotary Club of Palm Springs will host a tree lighting ceremony at the downtown Village Green, 221 S. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs.
5:30 PM to 7:30 PM – Wedding Warriors Holiday Mixer & Toy Drive will take place at Purple Room Restaurant and Stage (1900 E. Palm Canyon Drive, Palm Springs). This is a members only event but it is open to the public for a $15 fee. The event benefits Roy’s Desert Resource Center. Guests requested to bring an unwrapped toy or gift to donate. Raffle prizes, live entertainment and Happy Hour priced drinks and small bites included. Reservations/tickets are recommended for the event. Purple Room: (760) 322-4422.

Thursday (12/4)

5:15 PM – Actress Carol Channing will light the city of Palm Springs’ Christmas tree during a ceremony at Frances Stevens Park, 538 N. Palm Canyon Drive. Mayor Steve Pougnet will also recognize students who designed the holiday-themed banners lining Palm Canyon Drive.
5:30 PM – The city of Coachella will hold a Christmas tree lighting
ceremony in front of City Hall, 1515 Sixth St.
6PM – The city of Indio will hold its annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony, featuring caroling by local students, a petting zoo and
visit from Santa, at 100 Civic Center Mall. Free event.

Friday (12/5)

5:30 PM – The city of Palm Desert will hold a holiday celebration with a wreath lighting, caroling, children’s activities and a visit from Santa at the Civic Center, 73510 Fred Waring Drive.
6 PM – The city of La Quinta will hold a Christmas tree lighting
ceremony on the event lawn in Old Town La Quinta, 78100 Main St. The event will include a visit from Santa and live music.
6 PM – Newly crowned International Boxing Federation bantamweight titleholder Randy Caballero of Coachella will serve as grand marshal of the city’s Christmas parade, which starts at First and Harrison streets.
4:30 PM to 7:30 PM -Desert Hot Springs Holiday Tree Lighting (Corner of Palm Drive and Pierson Boulevard, in front of Desert Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center 11999 Palm Drive). Come kick start the holiday season with a traditional tree lighting ceremony in downtown Desert Hot Springs. Refreshments such as hot cocoa and coffee will be served, along with local entertainment like the Desert Hot Springs High School Band & Choir, Mayor Sanchez will be speaking, and of course an appearance from Santa Claus. This free event is brought to you by the Community of Cultural Affairs.

Saturday (12/6)

9AM – The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert will hold its
annual Breakfast with Santa, featuring crafts and entertainment. The museum is at 71-701 Gerald Ford Drive, Rancho Mirage. Tickets are $8 per child and $12 per adult, and can be purchased in the museum gift shop or by calling (760) 321-0602, ext. 101.
10 AM – The Indio International Tamale Festival will be held between
Highway 111 and Indio Boulevard, at Miles and Requa avenues, as well as Towne and Smurr streets. More information
5:45 PM – The 23rd annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade will be held, beginning at Palm Canyon Drive and Ramon Road. “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” cast member Lisa Vanderpump and longtime restaurateur David Lyons will be the grand marshals.
