Firefighter accused of stealing from homes

A Sacramento firefighter is being held on suspicion of going into people’s homes under the guise of inspecting smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and stealing prescription drugs.

Citrus Heights police arrested 30-year-old Craig White on Saturday after responding to reports of theft from two homes inside a mobile home park. He was booked for investigation of burglary and elderly abuse.

Police spokesman Rich Wheaton said White targeted people over the age of 65 and tried going into their homes to steal their medication.

KCRA-TV reports complaints from eight senior citizens led to White’s arrest.

White, a 3-year veteran of the Sacramento Fire Department, has been placed on paid administrative leave. The department said Sunday that it doesn’t knock on doors and demand inspections.

White is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
